Amanda L. Matthews
Amanda L. Matthews joined Nall & Miller in 2008 after practicing insurance defense at Swift Currie McGhee & Hiers. Ms. Matthews is a trial attorney specializing in motor carrier/transportation litigation and healthcare/professional liability litigation.
Ms. Matthews currently represents several national and local transportation companies, owner-operators, and insurers in virtually all aspects of motor carrier/transportation litigation, from property damage/cargo claims to personal injury and wrongful death actions. These cases routinely involve Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulation issues, allegations of negligent hiring/retention, company safety standards/policies, and expert witnesses in a variety of fields and scientific specialties. Ms. Matthews has been very successful handling these cases from their inception through to trial or settlement, including obtaining dismissals through summary judgment, and presenting cases at mediation and arbitration proceedings.
Ms. Matthews also works within the firm's healthcare practice group, representing several medical and psychiatric facilities in Atlanta in a variety of litigation proceedings. These range from informal judicial hearings to full jury trials on issues including patient rights, competency/involuntary commitment, hospital liability, malpractice, slip and fall/premises liability, patient care/abuse claims, and wrongful death.
Also within the healthcare practice group, Ms. Matthews represents physicians from a variety of medical specialties in their individual capacity and/or private practice, as well as several medical groups. She provides advice on issues including incorporation and liability/asset protection, contract negotiation, general business documentation, and litigation risk analysis. Ms. Matthews also serves as defense counsel in professional liability/malpractice actions.
She has represented clients in cases involving other types of professional malpractice, catastrophic injuries, toxic torts, premises liability, product liability, uninsured/underinsured motorist claims, contract disputes, construction litigation, fire litigation, and general insurance defense. Ms. Matthews also has experience handling plaintiff's cases involving fraud, breach of contract, property damages, subrogation, intentional torts, premises liability, personal injury, and wrongful death.
Ms. Matthews graduated from Georgia State University College of Law with an honors designation in litigation. In law school she served on the Moot Court board, and was elected President of the Trial Lawyers' Association, through which she received numerous honors and awards at local and national mock trial competitions as best advocate. She earned a Master of Public Administration and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Alabama with honors, and continues to be an avid University of Alabama football fan.
